WoodWorks Index of Mass Timber Connections
This index is a compilation of connections used in mass timber construction. Depending on the unique constraints of each project, the connection choice made by the designer may be influenced by aesthetics, load carrying capacity, fire-rating requirements, quality assurance requirements, cost and/or constructability. The purpose of the index is to facilitate the designer’s selection of project appropriate connections.
The index includes structural connections created for WoodWorks by KL&A Engineers & Builders in cooperation with Swinerton.
Connections are grouped into three categories. Class 1 connections require only mass timber elements and structural fasteners. Class 2 connections are custom steel fabricated elements, made up of components such as plates and angles, and include structural fasteners. Class 3 connections are prefabricated proprietary connectors available from a variety of suppliers.
For a list of companies that produce connections and fasteners for mass timber buildings, see WoodWorks’ CAD & Revit Details webpage.
